Panama's Second Largest Freshwater Lake and Natural Tilapia Farming Base - $110M Annual Revenue
Bayano Lake is Panama's second largest freshwater lake, formed artificially over a century ago as a natural drinking water source. In 2014, BAYAFARM signed an agreement with the Kuna region's 14 indigenous tribal alliance, securing development rights for 12,000 hectares of Bayano Lake and surrounding 1,000 hectares of land, with potential to acquire an additional 30,000 hectares. Current aquaculture area is 2,000 hectares, with annual fish output of approximately 57,000 tons. At a 1:0.38 ratio for fresh fish fillets, we produce about 21,800 tons of premium tilapia fillets. With an average price of $5.1/kg, annual sales revenue reaches $110 million. Products are primarily exported to European and American markets, serving local communities and international customers.
